Physiotherapy Distance Video Education in 1931

People do not know that many health professions, including physiotherapy, medicine, dentistry, chiropractic, osteopathy and massage therapy where originally offered as distance education programs. Some professions are still offered through distance education. For example, currently over 20 universities in USA offer online distance education Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs since 2003.

This is a flyer from American University in 1931, offering physiotherapy education through correspondence education. What sets this university apart from others of its time is that as part of its program it shipped a “moving Picture Projector” for students to watch the techniques as a simple form of video. Very unique, revolutionary idea at that time to watch the physiotherapy techniques on video.  Prior to that, the distance education involved books and notes only.
