I went to the immigration office last Monday to hand in my request and on Wednesday, 9 days later they made me a permanent resident!
In 5 years I will be eligible to become a full citizen with a passport and the eligibility to vote.
On Wednesday it took me 6 hours wait inside immigration to complete everything. Panama, like almost all other countries have government rules and regulations that are made to make your life hard!!!! The 6 hours wait was because some of my translated notarized documents were stamped on one page (this is how it is done by all notarizing agents). But the immigration officer wanted stamp on both sides of the paper!!! Can anyone explain why this is necessary? So I had to send ALL documents to my lawyer to get them stamped on both sides while waiting in the immigration center.
All in all it was an experience! I am not complaining though! In Canada it took me 6 years to get my permanent residency! So 9 days is great and I am grateful to Panamanian government to grant me permanent residency.
In 5 years I will be citizen of three countries, Iran, Canada, and Panama. so I am now Iranian/Canadian/Panamanian!
